Haiti

I have one sourced drink connected to Haiti. The label on each card says how: where it began, what the country is known for, what people drink there, or where the origin is disputed.

    Haitian Ti' Punch

    PopularSignature drink

A small punch of white Barbancourt rhum, cane syrup and the juice and zest of a quarter lime, stirred in the glass. Caribbean Journal gives a ratio of 3 ounces of rhum to 1 ounce of syrup and says it is usually served without ice, though a few pieces may be added. It is an aperitif, and in the French Caribbean tradition each drinker mixes their own from the rum, syrup and limes the host sets out.

Wikipedia says ti' punch is especially popular in the French-speaking Caribbean, including Martinique, Guadeloupe and Haiti, that it predates wide ice availability, and that it is the national cocktail of Martinique and Guadeloupe. Caribbean Journal's Haitian-style recipe comes from Rhum Barbancourt and calls the drink popular in Haiti, but gives no history beyond that.

Made with: Rhum Barbancourt, cane syrup, lime.
