A traditional Bhutanese rice wine or spirit, usually served hot. It can be taken plain, with butter and a poached egg, or with scrambled egg and rice.

Ara is made from barley, rice, maize, millet or wheat and may be fermented or distilled. It is offered in eastern Bhutan as a Lhasoel offering on certain auspicious days. Private production is legal in Bhutan and sale is prohibited, and Wikipedia notes production is unregulated in both method and quality.
