Reposado tequila

Also called tequila reposado, rested tequila

Tequila rested in oak for at least two months and less than a year, taking on a pale gold tint, vanilla and a softer edge while keeping cooked agave at the center. It suits a Margarita that wants more roundness and stirred drinks that would overwhelm a blanco.

  • cooked agave
  • vanilla
  • light caramel
  • pepper
  • dried citrus
  • toasted oak
  • soft spice

Origin

Reposado ('rested') must spend at least 60 days in oak or holm oak casks or large pipones; some producers rest it far longer in small ex-bourbon barrels. It sits between blanco (0 to 59 days) and añejo (at least one year in casks of 600 liters or less). Like all tequila it is made only from blue agave within the appellation declared in 1974 across five states, under NOM-006-SCFI-2012 and the Consejo Regulador del Tequila.
